Speaking of Bette Davis

Posted 12/26/12 by Eoin Vincent and filed under:

My Aunt just reminded me and sent me digging for this photo of Bette Davis.
Elizabeth and Bette where summer time friends in Ogunquit ME.

“For the Author” that would be Elizabeth.

Funny on how sometimes when going over hundreds and hundreds of images you have to be reminded in what you are looking at.

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and the clean up was not too bad.
The photos here were used in a Cape Ann Savings Bank ad. I have the ad somewhere, when I find it I will post it. This is another family model, Ken and Elizabeth’s granddaughter.

Good Harbor Beach Gloucester

Good Harbor Beach 1920’s or 30’s

One of the images that has gotten the most talk is the header photo of Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester.

In the B&W version of the photo the building was used as a Guest house (some time during the 20 ‘s or 30’s), it was then rumored to go into the hands of Bette Davis? Though there is another Inn in Gloucester that makes similar claims. I knew the owner about 15 years ago, but never asked him about the house.

It was requested by a friend to photograph a before and after, here is the house as of two days ago and the original that is in the header.

Robby With Gifts

This image was likely used for Cape Ann Saving Bank (Christmas Club?), or the Building Center, I am not sure I have never seen the final project.

Though it is a perfect image to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This image was likely used in a Cape Ann Saving Bank Ad. I wonder where she was going? That’s my sister.

Which Came First – A GMAC Ad

GMAC Art board of Ad

GMAC Art board of Ad

Last week I ran across a bunch of slides of art boards for GMAC. They are all dated February 1960, which means they were likely done at 18 Haven. This one caught my eye because one of my first image that I found in the family collection was the below image.

Elizabeth and Ken both enjoyed paining from photos, and the copy in this artboard appears complete. So, it begs the question: which one came first, the photo or the art board?

The Camp Fire

At some point Ken must have done a campaign for Boy Scouts of America. These images are of the boys of Troop 20. Regretfully, I do not know which troop 20, nor have I found any ads or marketing that connect these images to anything, but I still think there’re brilliant!

Everyone Was a Model

On The Porch of 18 Haven

Everyone was a model for Vincent Advertising: sons, daughters, grandkids and neighbors. I do not know what these images were used for but I love these photos of their daughter Mary Ann.

These were taken outside the home on 18 Haven, the singled house was often used as a backdrop for the photos.

Portraits of Elizabeth

Over the years it appears Ken used Elizabeth for light tests for up incoming photo shoots. This one is a little different as it a little more finished than the others that I have seen. So, I wounded if they were for an Ad or Ad concept. She was so beautiful.

Chesterfield Cigarettes

One of the many campaigns Ken worked on was Chesterfield Cigarettes. These are from a shoot in Oct 1941, I do not know if he was the photographer or the Art Director.

Notes from my Aunt: “Dad was never the photographer for the ads during his career in New York.¬† They used professional photographers and sometimes Dad invited them to our home in Riverside.¬† He directed the photography sessions¬† sometimes.”
